Could anything interesting ever emerge from recombining the DNA of the two? Thats where a game such as GTA V breaks through. He gives a relatively subtle performance here as Jack Halcombe, a smart and committed policeman who sets out to catch heinous killer Robert Hansen (John Cusack). Vanessa Hudgens stars as Cindy Paulson, a stripper who manages to escape Hansen's clutches. Jack is the only one who believes her view story, and her testimony becomes the cornerstone of his otherwise flimsy case against the psycho. Movie Review: Can Robert DeNiro Save ‘The Family’?

Anything more was an admission of failure; the trajectory of success went from television to film, not the other way around. As recently as 10 years ago, when "Angels in America" sent Meryl Streep and Al Pacino up the Emmy red carpet in 2004, journalists could not believe their eyes "Is This the Emmys or the Oscars ?" ran far too many headlines. A few years later, stars including Kyra Sedgwick , Sally Field and Holly Hunter took lead roles in television shows, but even then, it was seen as a "female complaint." Women of, ahem, a certain age could not find roles in film and so were forced to, bravely, stoically, go with heads held high, darling, find work in (shudder) television. VIDEO: Fall TV preview 2013 Now, of course, that divide, like the one in Berlin, is but a memory. Oscar-winning films such as "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Argo" run on supporting casts pulled almost entirely from television, while small-screen credits regularly look like a chunk of sidewalk outside the Chinese. Martin Scorsese and Steve Buscemi of "Boardwalk Empire," Laura Dern and Mike White of "Enlightened," Kevin Costner in "Hatfields & McCoys," Jessica Lange and James Cromwell in "American Horror Story," Laura Linney in "The Big C," Claire Danes in "Homeland," Jane Campion and Hunter of "Top of the Lake," David Fincher, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright of "House of Cards." And it's not just HBO (which for years distanced itself from its own medium with that "It's not TV, it's HBO" tagline) or even cable. Kathy Bates lighted up "Harry's Law" until NBC saw fit to Kim Kardashian full video dis the show's large but apparently demographically undesirable audience and cancel it. (Yes, NBC, Bates is not the only one still angry.) Last year, Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore headlined the cast Kim Kardashian sekstape free stream of A&E's surprisingly fantastic "Bates Motel," Kevin Bacon signed on for Fox's horror procedural "The Following," with Hugh Dancy and Laurence Fishburne following suit on NBC's "Hannibal." Though both "The Following" and "Hannibal" received wildly mixed reviews, and more important, no Emmy nominations, the trend shows no signs of slowing.
Source: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-ca-tv-fall-preview-critics-notebook-20130915,0,1067273.story

Movie Beat: We’re the ones encouraging sequels

In fact, the only truly brilliant scene in The Family references De Niros place in Hollywoods mob film canon. On the other hand, once you get over the cliche of De Niro as a mobster, hes certainly fun to watch. Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Arthur and The Invisibles), whos not exactly known for restraint and nuance, directs this dark comedy about the Manzoni family, who are hiding out in Normandy, France, after Giovanni Manzoni (De Niro) rats out his other family. Manzoni was a ruthless mobster whose wife, Maggie (Michelle Pfeiffer), is every bit as tough as he is. Oh, and their kids? Daughter Belle (Glees Dianna Agron) is as tough as she is beautiful, while 14-year-old son Warren (John DLeo) is a cross between Ferris Bueller and Brad Pitts Tyler Durden from Fight Club. Tommy Lee Jones is the FBI agent charged with the thankless and exasperating task of keeping the Manzonis alive. Universal Pictures Rush September 13 Ron Howard takes on the true story of two Formula One rivalsBritains free-spirited, charismatic James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Austrias hyperfocused Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl)whose constant one-upmanship in the 1970s pushed international auto racing to both glorious new highs and tragic new lows. With titles like Apollo 13, Cinderella Man, A Beautiful Mind, and Frost/Nixon on his resume, director Howard has become one of the most dependable names in American cinema for sturdily enjoyable and affecting filmsand Rush explores some of Howards favorite themes, like the intimacy of male competition and the power of steadfast, unconditional married partnerships. Movie review: 'Salinger' is a treasure-trove of details about writer

Fellini, who famously opened his film with the image of a helicopter hoisting a statue of Jesus through the barren outskirts of Rome, was looking at a modern world in which faith had leaked away. So is Sorrentino, but since The Great Beauty was made 50 years later, what has gone away isnt just faith but the pretense of faith. The decadence is now omnivorous yet lightweight a spiritual apocalypse delivered with an amused half-shrug. Most of the shrugging comes from Jep (Toni Servillo), who wrote an acclaimed novel 40 years ago and has been dining out on it ever since. (For no reason that he can really articulate, he has never written another.) At his incredible apartment, with a giant balcony that overlooks the Colosseum (making The Great Beauty, Kim Kardashian tape among other things, one of the most casually eye-popping pieces of cinematic real-estate porn I have ever seen), he hosts parties that go on all night, in which the citys social and gossip-column elite chatter and flirt and fall into gyrating Kim Kardashian breast implants disco-dancing trains. Yet Jep himself, who has just turned 65, remains amiably jaded and detached.
Read more: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/09/05/toronto-2013-the-quality-movie-season-on-steroids/

For this, he should be commended. When it comes to politics, however, Penn would be the first inductee, were there a Hollywood Hall of Hypocrites. Penn is an ardent supporter of the current President, which is curious when one considers the open letter that the failed actor wrote to then President George W. Bush in 2002. In this letter, Penn criticized Bush for many of the very things that Obama has constantly done since he has been in the White House, as indicated in the following excerpt: intolerance of debate (with us or against us), marginalization of your critics, the promoting of fear through unsubstantiated rhetoric, manipulation of a quick comfort media, and position of your administrations deconstruction of civil liberties In the same letter, Penn lamented the evils of war: Yet, that bombing is answered by bombing, mutilation by mutilation, killing by killing, is a pattern that only a great country like ours can stop. Ed Asner Explains Hollywood Silence on Obama, Syria: They 'Don't Want to Feel Anti-Black'

PHOTOS: Top Celebrity Twitter Commentators Asner, 83, and Farrell, 74, both expressed extreme disappointment in Obama for advocating military action. "What he is talking about in Syria is a potential war crime," Farrell said. "It will be illegal, and if citizens are killed it certainly could be considered a war crime." Even if Obama presents irrefutable evidence that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used poison gas against civilians, military action is still unwarranted, the two activists say. "This administration ought to insist that the international community charge [Assad] with a war crime and prosecute him, and in so doing Obama would be following the law instead of http://kierastu.newsvine.com/_news/2013/09/07/20376941-kim-kardashian-goes-blonde-other-celebs-blonde-moments flaunting the law," Farrell said. "It's incredibly improper for the president to call for a strike. I have said it everywhere I can and I suspect a lot of others will do the same, but whether there will be an organized effort, I don't know," Farrell continued. "We're talking about the difference between an invasion in Iraq and a limited action in response to the use of chemical weapons in Syria."
